Western Red Cedar
Cedar is a strong timber that is less prone to warping and splits than pine and has the benefit of being relatively lightweight and strong. It has an attractive red colour and ages to a stylish grey.
Cedar is also naturally resistant to pest attacks, moisture and rot. All these qualities make it a natural champion for outdoor joinery.
Iroko
Another popular hardwood we are happy to recommend is iroko. It is native to West Africa and is incredibly durable and hardwearing. It is also resistant to pests and has natral water resistance, making it ideal for long-lasting garden products like our bin stores and garden kitchens.
Pine
Finally, pine species such as Scots pine and larch can be a cost effective timber to use for outdoor joinery including bin stores. Sometimes it can be heavy and contain more knots than cedar and iroko, but it is durable and has good weather resistance.
Pine is a great choice of wood if you would like your bin store to be painted a custom colour.
